Fatal – Car v pedestrian - Coolalinga - 4537948

Police

Police are warning motorists to expect traffic delays of up to several hours along the Stuart Highway in Coolalinga, as investigations into a fatal crash that occurred last night continue.

It is alleged that a 50-year-old female was driving a blue Toyota Tercel inbound on the Stuart Highway at approximately 11:00 pm when she struck a male that was attempting to cross the road.

The driver appears to have then lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it veering off the road and down an embankment, before continuing on through a dry creek bed, stopping approximately 100 meters from the road edge.

Police and St John Ambulance members attended, locating the deceased 51-year-old male on the median strip.

Police have blocked off a section of the inbound lane of the Stuart highway between Temple Terrace and Lambrick Avenue as investigations continue.

Members advise that traffic is being diverted off the Stuart Highway and along Lambrick Avenue and it is predicted that this will continue for several hours.

This now takes the NT road toll to 11 compared to nine for the same period last year.
