Drug seizures - Nguiu

Police

Nguiu Police arrested a man and a woman this week in relation to drug offences.

It is alleged a 49-year-old woman was arrested after a package fell from her dress as she exited an aircraft arriving in Nguiu from Darwin on Sunday. A Pilot who sighted the drugs immediately alerted police who subsequently seized approximately 27.7 grams of cannabis from the woman.

She has been bailed to appear in Nguiu Court at a later date.

Members also arrested a 25-year-old male at Nguiu airport yesterday in relation to drug offences. A search of the offender's luggage revealed a total of 106.1 grams of cannabis concealed in a frozen leg of lamb and minced meat.

The man has been bailed to appear in Nguiu Court at a later date.

Superintendent Matt Hollamby said the drugs could have reached $20 000 if sold in the community.

"NT Police will continue to target offenders who traffic drugs into vulnerable remote communities", he said.
