Motorcycle Accident – Adelaide River

Police

A 55-year-old Katherine man has been conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital last night following a motorcycle accident which occurred approximately 20km south of Adelaide River.

It is alleged that at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, the male was riding his ZX11 Kawasaki motorbike inbound on the Stuart Highway when he has lost control of his bike whilst overtaking another vehicle. It is believed that the man has lost control of his bike when it has veered onto the gravel shoulder of the outbound lane.

The man was thrown over 16meters from his bike and has sustained multiple injuries including a broken right arm and deep laceration to his face.

Territory Duty Superintendent Nouvelle Reed thanked the passengers who were travelling in the tourist bus for their prompt assistance at the scene.

"Fortunately for this man, there were two doctors on board the coach who were able to administer medical assistance immediately.

"This man is extremely lucky to have survived this accident. This is a timely reminder to all motorists to obey the speed limit and not gamble with their lives, or the safety of other motorists," she said.

The man was taken to the Adelaide River clinic before being medi-vac'd to Royal Darwin Hospital where he is believed to be in a serious condition.
