Remains identified - Alice Springs

Police

Police have identified human remains found north-east of Alice Springs last month.

Forensic testing has revealed the remains are those of Peter Wayne Murphy who went missing in Alice Springs in August 2008.

In May this year NT Police received information from Queensland Police that Mr Murphy had been murdered and his body buried near the Plenty Highway.

Extensive searches of the area last month resulted in the location of human remains near a spoon drain off the Plenty Highway.

Today, police have been able to release the findings of forensic testing which have identified the remains as those of Peter Wayne Murphy. Mr Murphy's family has been advised of the findings.

Thirty-one-year-old Adam Filippone has been charged with murder and has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court again on October 11, 2010.
