Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Gunn Point Beach early this morning.

It is alleged at about 3:00 am a 24-year-old male was riding a quad bike on the beach when he lost control rolling the vehicle on soft wet sand in the tidal zone.

Police, Fire and Rescue and St John members attended however the 24-year-old male was declared deceased at the scene.

It is believed that the rider of the vehicle was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and investigations into the cause are continuing.

"We urge all motorbike riders to wear helmets and wear the appropriate level of protective clothing no matter where they are riding" said Duty Superintendent Nouvelle Reed.

There are no further details at this stage.
