The 36-year-old female has told police she was walking along a laneway that runs parallel between Paterson and Ambrose Street shortly after 4:00 am when she was approached by a man.

The woman said she walked away but was approached again by the offender at the end of the laneway where he attempted to sexually assault her. It is alleged that the man was well spoken and did not smell of alcohol.

The offender fled when members of the public came to the woman's assistance.

The offender is described as being:
Of Aboriginal appearance
25 - 28 years old
Stocky build
170 - 172cm tall
Dark curly hair
Wearing a black t-shirt with a white and blue flannelette shirt and black shorts.
