Personal safety awareness – Suspicious person Leanyer

Police

NT Police are calling for public assistance after receiving a report of suspicious behaviour near a local school last week. Two girls, aged 10 & and 11, have told police they were walking home from school at 2:45 pm last Tuesday when they were approached by a man on Gotham Street in Leanyer who asked them to get into his car. They then ran away. The matter was reported to police on Thursday. The man's vehicle is described as a light olive green delivery type van which appears to have been re-painted. It has some scratches towards the front which reveal that the original colour may be white. It has NT number plates. Police urge parents to teach their children the four R's, Recognise the danger Refuse any offer (say no) Run away (to somewhere safe) Report it (straight away or as soon as you can) to the first person they feel safe with, such as a safe adult, teacher or police officer. (If they don't help you keep reporting it until someone helps). Schools in the area have provided advice to parents through newsletters.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has further information is urged to contact NT Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
