Police tried to apprehend the vehicle just before midnight after noticing it travelling inbound on the Stuart Highway without tail lights. The driver of the Holden Commodore sedan refused to stop and made a left hand turn into Karnte Road before accelerating away from police. The driver then lost control of the car on a bend and crashed. Police managed to get all four occupants out of the car and St John Ambulance and a Fire and Rescue crew were called to attend.

The 43-year-old driver and his three male passengers aged 32, 31 and 18 were all taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing and the driver is yet to be interviewed.
