NT Police and the Fire and Rescue Service were called to Alawa Primary school at 12:44 pm today after receiving reports of a structure fire on the grounds.

On arrival a small structure containing play ground equipment was alight. It is not known at this time if the fire was purposely lit.

Fire fighters extinguished the blaze in less than half an hour while police directed traffic around the scene.

St John Ambulance attended as a precaution; however no one was injured as a result of the incident.

A crime scene has been established and fire investigators along with police are currently conducting inquiries into the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.
