Single vehicle rollover - Daly Waters

Police

Police are currently investigating a single vehicle rollover that occurred this morning two kilometres from Daily Waters.

Two men aged 41 and 44 were travelling on the Carpentaria Highway in a Toyota Hilux when the crash occurred at approximately 4:00 am this morning.

Initial investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling west towards Daly Waters before rolling up to three times with the driver becoming trapped underneath.

Volunteer members from the Fire Emergency Rescue Group attended the scene and extracted the trapped man from under the vehicle.

Both men were taken to Katherine Hospital by St John Ambulance and are currently being transported by Care Flight to the Royal Darwin Hospital and remain in a serious condition.

"It is devastating to see this carnage on our roads. I ask locals, tourists and those working in the transport industry to take extra care in being safe on our roads "Commander Jeanette Kerr said.

"Stop and rest if you are tired, wear seatbelts and don't speed. That extra 10 kilometres an hour or not wearing a seatbelt can be the difference between life and death.

"I also want to commend the efforts of the NT Fire and Rescue and Emergency Service volunteers across the NT. These people make a real difference saving lives and responding to disaster with police, I would urge anyone interested in joining the volunteer units across the regional and remote areas of the NT to get in touch with their local Police Station."

Police are currently continuing with their investigations.
