Structure Fire - Berrimah

Police

NT Police and the Fire and Rescue Service were called to a structure fire in Berrimah's industrial area late yesterday afternoon.

At about 6:00pm Police, Fire and Rescue Service and St John Ambulance personnel attended College Road to find large industrial shed containing a number of vehicles on fire. Fire fighters quickly extinguished the blaze while police diverted traffic around the scene.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

Seven vehicles were in the shed at the time of the fire and as a result a Toyota Landcruiser and a Western Star prime moved were totally destroyed; a Nissan Patrol and a trailer also received fire damage during the blaze.

The damage to the Western Star prime mover is estimated at about $100,000 and damage to the premises and other customers property is estimated at around $80,000.

Fire investigators who attended the scene this morning have determined the cause of the fire was an electrical fault in one of the vehicles.

District Officer Rob Trewartha fire fighters had to force entry and work through thick black smoke to extinguish the fire.

"The quick response and aggressive interior attack by fire-fighters prevented the mechanical workshop from becoming fully engulfed" he said.
