Traffic pursuit - Malak

Police

Police arrested a 24-year-old Malak man in relation to a number of traffic offences overnight.

At about 12:50 am police witnessed the offender travelling at 85 km in a 60 km zone on Mueller Road in Malak before activating their lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The man failed to comply with police instructions and continued to speed away; at this point members activated their emergency sirens and instigated a pursuit.


The pursuit lasted only two minutes before the offender crashed his Holden Commodore into a fence at the intersection of Lowrie Court and Patterson Street in Malak. As police approached the vehicle the offender attempted to flee the scene on foot.

He was apprehended short time later on a nearby school oval, where he was subjected to a breath test and arrested.

The Commodore received minor damage during the crash however caused extensive damage to the fence on Lowrie Court.

The man was conveyed Darwin Watch House where he provided a blood alcohol content reading of 0.079 percent and was charged in relation to the following offence;

Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Fail to obey signal of member
Leave the scene of an accident
Drive at a speed and in a manner that is dangerous
Drive with a low range blood alcohol
Exceed speed limit up to 15 kms over
He is due to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
