Alice Springs Police and the Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene of three vehicle crash on the Stuart Highway just outside the Heavitree Gap in Alice Springs.

The crash was reported to police at about 7:40pm where it appears three vehicles have collided and are now blocking the Stuart Highway.

Saint John Ambulance is on the scene and one person has been taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

Both lanes of the Stuart Highway are currently closed and police are urging motorists to avoid the area until the road is clear.

There is no further detail at this point and updates will be released as information becomes available.
