Large Grass Fire – Howard Springs – Update 7

Police

Responding Fire Crews, the Incident Control Centre at Howard Springs Fire Station and the Emergency Operation Centre in Berrimah has now been officially stood down.
However, NT Fire and Rescue and Police will continue to investigate the cause of the large grass fire and updates will be provided in due course.
As previously stated, at this preliminary stage in the investigation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined with no suspicious circumstances identified.
The area of origin has been isolated to a region in the Howard River Area, South of Gunn Point Road.
District Officer Grant Hamon said this is a reminder to all residents in bushfire prone areas of the Territory to ensure their own fire management plans are in place and their fire breaks are well maintained.
"There is no doubt this fire could have been much worse had it not been for attending crews and the vigilance of property owners in the area. Fire crews rely on well maintained fire breaks to be able to access rural areas and contain fires such as this one."
