Police

Darwin Water Police are currently on their way to attend and investigate the sinking of a vessel off the coast of Warruwi yesterday afternoon. The vessel allegedly ran into trouble approximately two nautical miles off the coast of Goulbourn Island at about 3.30 pm, initially running out of fuel then taking water on board. The local Police Vessel from Warruwi was launched to assist at 1630hrs. Two community vessels in the vicinity also assisted with transporting passengers back to land. It is understood that the skipper of the vessel remained on board, endeavouring to recover the troubled craft back to dry land. The vessel continued to take on water and eventually sunk in eight metres of water. All persons involved have been accounted for.
