Criminal Damage - Pinelands

Police

NT police are calling for public assistance after heavy machinery and construction equipment was damaged at a worksite in Pinelands overnight.

Police were notified of the incident at about 7:00am after employees arrived at the Stuart Highway/Roystonia Avenue road works site early this morning.

It appears the unknown offenders attended the location over night and damaged the exterior and windows to five pieces of machinery including excavators, rollers and a bobcat. It is believed the same offenders then vandalised the nearby Stuart Highway overpass by spraying graffiti on a number of walls and poles at the location.

The offenders caused approximately $50 000 worth of damage to the machinery at the site and $30 000 worth of damage to the over pass.

Duty Superintendent Daniel Shean said this was a senseless act of vandalism.

"Police are calling on the public to help identify these offenders. If you were driving along the Stuart Highway last night and noticed anything suspicious or if you have further information in relation to the incident, please contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000" he said.
