Assault - Alice Springs

Police

Police are calling for public assistance following the assault of a disabled man in Alice Springs.

Police believe the man was assaulted at his home on Nelson Terrace between Monday 04th October and Tuesday 05th October.

The man was taken to Alice Springs Hospital by his part time carer on 06th October as she thought he had fallen over. However it was established today that the man had been assaulted.

It is believed that two men of Aboriginal appearance approached the disabled man, who was standing on his porch, and asked him for a smoke. The disabled man, who can not speak, did not reply and as a result, one of the men punched him causing him to fall over. The two offenders then entered the house, stole cigarettes and walked off in an unknown direction.

Alice Springs Police are still investigating the incident and they urge anyone who witnessed the assault or may have further information to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
