Severe Weather Alice Springs - Police and Emergency Service Warning

Police are urging residents in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek to prepare for a severe storm with strong winds and hail expected tonight.

A storm with winds of 60 kilometres per hour and 90 kilometre wind gusts is expected to hit Alice Springs between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm tonight. Police have also received reports of a severe storm currently hitting Tennant Creek and Kulgura and are urging motorists to avoid travelling on local roads if possible.

Senior Sergeant Michael Potts urges residents to prepare their yard.

"We are urging Alice Springs residents to secure any loose debris on their property, to avoid property damage and injury. Police are also asking motorists to avoid travelling during the storm as hail is expected and conditions could be extremely dangerous".
