Alice Springs Detectives are currently investigating the suspicious death of a 21-year-old man in Alice Springs over night.

At about 4.30 am this morning, Alice Springs Police were called to the intersection of Lovegrove Drive and Elder Street, Araluen by a member of the public in relation to a collapsed male. Upon arrival police located the man laying on the road with wounds to his chest; he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and currently have a 22-year-old male in custody assisting with the investigation.

A crime scene has been established and pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic at the intersection of Lovegrove Drive and Spicer Street, Lovegrove Drive and Kennett Court, and Lovegrove Drive and Elder Street are restricted to public access. The public are asked to follow police direction when travelling into the area or use an alternative route.

Police are calling for public assistance and urge anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area early this morning, or who may have further information is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
