Stolen Vehicles & Pursuit - Winnellie

Police

Two youths were arrested overnight after they stole vehicles from a Winnellie car yard.

At approximately 11:21 pm last night two male youths cut their way through the fence of a car yard on Farrell Road and stole two cars from the premises.

Police located one of the cars a short time later driving on Amy Johnson Road with no lights on. The vehicle was stopped and the 13-year-old driver was arrested.

The second vehicle was found a short time later driving along McMillans Road in Marrara without its lights on. When Police attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued on and failed to stop.

Police pursued the vehicle throughout the suburbs of Milner, Nightcliff, Rapid Creek, Alawa and Brinkin. The pursuit finished on Claymore Circuit where the stolen car collided with a Police car. The 13-year-old driver was arrested.

Both of the youths remain in Police custody and will be interviewed later this morning.

Darwin Duty Superintendent, Robert Rennie, says it is fortunate no one was injured.

"Engaging in pursuits with Police is a dangerous act which places the lives of Police, the public and the offender at risk.

"We are happy that nobody was injured and the offender has been apprehended," he said.
