Two men charged with drug and traffic offences – Alice Springs

Police



Police pulled over a vehicle travelling along the Stuart Highway, 15 kilometres south of Alice Springs, shortly before 1:00 pm.

The 27-year-old driver was subjected to a roadside drug test to which he provided a positive result. The vehicle was subsequently searched with police locating 725 grams of cannabis divided into two bags.

A short time later, members from the Drug Enforcement Unit, Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Dog Operations Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of the driver and located 472 MDMA tablets, 25 grams of methamphetamine and three cannabis plants.

The 27-year-old male driver has been charged with:

Possess methamphetamine - trafficable quantity
Possess MDMA - commercial quantity
Supply cannabis - commercial quantity
Possess cannabis - commercial quantity
Cultivate cannabis
Drive unlicensed
Drive under influence of drug
Provide false name

The 25-year-old male passenger has been charged with:

Possess cannabis - commercial quantity
Supply cannabis - commercial quantity

Both men are due to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

If sold in the Alice Springs area, the drugs have an estimated value of:
472 MDMA tablets - $23,600.00
25 grams methamphetamine - $10,800.00
725 grams cannabis - $36,175.00
"Alice Springs Police will continue to target potential drug traffickers in an effort to reduce the availability and flow of these illicit substances to all areas of the Northern Territory" Superintendent Michael White said.

"This is an impressive seizure by our members and it's great to know these drugs didn't get the chance to hit our streets."
