Marathon Runners Return to Country- Alice Springs

Police

Local men Charlie Maher and Caleb Hart won the hearts of the country last month when they competed in and completed the New York Marathon.
Rob de Castella is in Alice Springs today and will be available for interview, along with Charlie and Caleb, at 1.00 pm. "I'm really looking forward to expanding the program into more towns and communities next year to promote healthy lifestyles and find a future distance running champion" de Castella said. Superintendent Andy Warton applauds the young men, their families and their communities, expanding on how important the achievement of these young role models is to the Northern Territory community, and the Northern Territory Police. "The Northern Territory Police Force has been proudly associated with the Indigenous Marathon Project over it's inaugural year. As police mentors and training partners, this has provided an opportunity for further positive engagement with Indigenous communities across the Northern Territory. The Northern Territory Police applaud the discipline and dedication shown by all four Indigenous athletes in making it to, and successfully completing the New York Marathon. On a personal level, the relationships forged between the Indigenous athletes and their police mentors are likely to last a lifetime" he said. Media Contact Sarah Gotch 8901 0280
