Conterfeit $50 - Casuarina

Police

Police are looking for two males who allegedly attempted to use a fake $50 at a fast food shop at Casuarina yesterday.

It is alleged one of the males entered the shop at about 4:00pm yesterday and purchased a bottle of soft drink with a fake $50 note before exiting the premises. The second man entered immediately after and attempted to purchase a drink when the cashier noticed the notes were fake and notified her superior. When the supervisor confronted the man in relation to the paper note he exited the store and fled the scene in a red Hyundai hatchback.

The manager of the store immediately called police.

Members seized the fake note and conducted patrols of the area; however, were unable to locate the men.

The offenders are described as:

Offender 1 - A short male approximately 45-years-old with black hair and facial hair, bad teeth and was wearing a black or dark blue shirt at the time of the incident.

Offender 2 - A male with short red hair who was wearing a hat and a white T-shirt with a black logo on it at the time of the incident.

The note appears to be paper with the markings and colours of a $50 note but with no clear window and appears to have been crookedly cut down to the size of a legitimate note.

Police were alerted to a second incident today where a counterfeit note appears to have been used at a service station in Casuarina area over the weekend. Staff counting the weekend takings noticed the note earlier today and immediately called police.

It is very similar to the first note, however has a clear window which has been cut out and sticky tape has been stuck on the top.

Police are calling for public assistance and are urging anyone who witnessed the incidents or who may know the whereabouts of the offenders to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss urged retailers and staff to be vigilant.

"These notes on first glance may look genuine, however, they feel nothing like the real thing and when inspected further it is an obvious poor attempt at counterfeiting".

"There is a possibility that these incidents are linked and we are urging anyone with information to contact police" he said.
