Yacht breaks moorings -Darwin

Police

Police are trying to locate the owner of a yacht which broke its moorings this afternoon in Darwin.

Police received a report just before 3pm that a 25 ft yacht appeared to have broken away from its moorings near the Darwin Sailing Club and was drifting towards cliffs at Fanny Bay.

Sergeant Glenn McPhee of the Water Police Unit said the yacht managed to avoid hitting rocks and became stranded on the beach as the tide receded. Police investigations have failed to identify the yacht's owner and police are now making a public appeal to locate him or her. The white yacht has "Justin Tyme2" painted on its bow and police are hoping the owner will be found before it is further damaged on the incoming tide.

Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
