Armed assaults – Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs are investigating two incidents in which people were threatened with a knife at the weekend.

In the first incident a man and a woman, both aged 20, returned to their Kempe Street unit around 11.40pm and found two males at the front of the premises. The males walked out of the driveway and remained near the front of the property. A short time later the victims saw one of the males going through their unlocked vehicle. When the male victim went out to the car the offenders fled carrying property from the vehicle. The victim gave chase but one of the offenders produced a knife and warned him not to follow. He then ran back to the house and called police.

In the second incident two men, aged 23 and 24, were walking along Achilpa Street around 11.50pm when they were approached by two males and asked for marijuana. When the victims said they had none, one of the offenders produced a knife and threatened them with it. The victims fled the scene and reported the incident to police.

In both cases the offenders were described as being males of Aboriginal appearance with one of the offenders wearing a white baseball cap.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of the Gap where both incidents took place around 11.30 to midnight on Saturday to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
