Rapid Creek pedestrian rescue

Police

Police again urge all road users to use extreme caution following the rescue of a 23-year-old pedestrian at around 1:00 am this morning.

It is believed that the male ignored police direction and attempted to cross the road through fast flowing water at the intersection of Rapid Creek and Trower Roads.

He soon ran into trouble, having to hold onto the traffic lights until Police rescued him using a winch cable attached to their vehicle.

Watch Commander Garry Smith urged the public to heed all warnings and stay away and off flooded areas.

"Not only will you put yourself in danger but tie up resources and place Police, Fire and Emergency Service personnel in danger. Our resources are better utilised elsewhere than attending to incidents that can be quite simply avoided.

"Swollen creeks are dangerous.

"Police and other Emergency Services are out on the roads to assist with public safety. I insist that you adhere to all of their advice. Dismissing these instructions could be deadly" he said.
