A Warning for Children

Police

Police again continue to urge all parents to keep a close eye on children throughout the wet weather we are currently experiencing.

Watch Commander Garry Smith said that it can be very tempting for kids to want to swim in swollen creeks and drains.

"As tempting as it may be for youngsters or revellers to want to swim and enjoy the vast amount of water, we urge parents and guardians alike to be on the look out as it can turn deadly in just seconds.

"Kids, especially when they've got the day off school, are obvious naturally very inquisitive. I urge you all to talk to your kids about the dangers of playing near and especially in fast flowing water ways.

"There are numerous drains and roads flooding around the Top End whilst we're on a Cyclone Warning so please be aware and keep children indoors and safe. It is just not worth the risk" he said.
