Update #19 - Flood Threat Advice - Darwin River

Police

Due to increased rainfall from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Carlos, the Darwin River Dam has reached capacity. Excess water is now going over the spillway and this will continue for some time.

Increased water levels within the Darwin River area have caused some incidents of localised flooding and inundation to households in low-lying areas , including Darwin River Road, Reedbeds Road, Old Bynoe Road, Cox Penninsula Road, Mira Road, Blackmore River, Darwin River, and surrounding areas .

This evening's high tide will increase the potential for residences in these areas to suffer flooding or inundation.

Members of the Public are advised that if they have concerns for their safety they need to make a decision now to move to a safe location or leave the area and stay with friends or family in non affected areas.

If members of the public are unable to leave and require assistance they should contact Emergency Services on the hotline number 1800 888 901 or 000

Emergency Services have a Helicopter and boats in the area monitoring the situation that may also assist with evacuation if urgently required.

If you require urgent assistance, please call the Hotline on 1800 888 901.
