The incident occurred at around 5:45 am Saturday morning when the male stepped out from the median strip on Cavenagh Street and directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

He sustained serious head injuries and was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Darwin Major Crash Investigation members are continuing to investigate the incident; however it appears that the driver was neither speeding nor affected by alcohol at the time of the crash.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.

This now brings the NT road toll to two compared to five for the same period last year.
