Police have identified the person of a fatal accident that occurred on the Arnhem Highway on Saturday.

It appears the 44-year-old Darwin man died after his Toyota Hilux hit a semi-trailer that was travelling inbound towards Darwin on the Arnhem Highway just after 3:20pm.

Initial investigations indicate the Hilux has clipped the semi-trailer and sideswiped the full length of the semi-trailer before rolling several times and coming to a rest 110 meters down the road. During the rollover the driver of the Hilux was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries.

The name of the deceased will not be released as requested by the family.

The death brings the Territory road toll to 6 compared to 11 for the same period last year.

The Major Crash Unit is continuing with its investigations and it is unlikely any charges will be laid against the 45-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer.
