NT Fire and Rescue Recruits donate blood

Police

NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) members are rolling up their sleeves today and giving blood to raise awareness for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

Five fresh faced recruits and three seasoned instructors will head into the Blood Service's Casuarina Branch this afternoon.

Leading Fire Fighter Ryan Clay said this was a perfect opportunity to not only give back to the community, but also to remind the public just how vital this service is.

"Just one donation can save up to three lives and can be used to treat a wide range of people, including burn victims, people with blood disorders as well as those with cancer and Leukaemia. One in three Territorians will need blood or blood products in their lifetime, however only one in 30 people donate," Leading Fire Fighter Clay said.

The Blood Service is always looking for more donors to combat the increasing demand for blood. To find out if you're eligible to donate or any other enquiries call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au

The men involved in today's donation include: Instructors - Leading Fire Fighter Ryan Clay, Station Officer Peter Svara, Fire Fighter Bill Gleeson as well as Recruit Fire Fighters - Andrew Stewart, Ryan Kelly, Matthew Wiltshire, Warren Fripp and Neil Joyce.
