Vehicle Compound Fire - Maranboy

Police and Fire Investigators are investigating a fire that occurred at the Maranboy Police Station on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 6:30 pm, local police responded to a fire at the station in the vehicle compound.

Officers immediately attended and attempted to extinguish the fire but the vehicle compound was fully engulfed in flames.

13 vehicles that were contained to the vehicle compound were destroyed by the fire. The vehicles had been seized for a variety of offences and the relevant stakeholders and owners are in the process of being notified.

There was no structure damage to other Police facilities as a result of the fire.

Initial investigations indicate the fire was started as a result of an officer conducting back burning in the area.

An internal disciplinary investigation is being conducted in relation to the fire.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
