Katherine Police are investigating the death of an elderly man at the Katherine Gorge this afternoon.

Katherine Gorge is located inside Nitmiluk National Park, approximately 30 km northeast of Katherine.

Police received a report around 4:32 pm that a man was found in the river of the first Gorge.

Members of the public administered first aid, however the man died at the scene.

It appears the man was separated from his tour group and police would like anyone that may have seen this man to contact them on 131 444.

No further details are available at this stage and police investigations are continuing.
