Detectives from the General Crime Section, Crime Scene Examiners and Fire and Rescue Investigators are continuing with their investigations into the two boat fires at Cullen Bay yesterday morning.
General Crime Section, Detective A/Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the two boats that were destroyed by the fire, ‘Off The Hook’ and ‘Sunchaser’, have now been extracted from the marina.
“Crime Scene Examiners and Fire and Rescue Investigators will now start the process of examining the boats in an attempt to establish a cause of the fire.
“The examination of the boats may take a few days and at this stage it is unclear how the fire started.
“An initial investigation yesterday of where the fire started has also identified fire and heat damage received to the two boats that were moored next to “Off The Hook’ and ‘Sunchaser; these boats will also be examined.
“Once again I would like to recognise the great efforts residents went to in an attempt to extinguish the fire and also the great work by the Water Police and Fire and Rescue Officers.
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area or anyone that may have further information regarding the fires to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Investigations are continuing.
