Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) today sent a deployment of Firefighters to assist with the blazes in Alice Springs.
NTFRS sent six of their Darwin rural based Volunteer Firefighters to Alice Springs this morning to support Bushfires NT to try to gain control of the fires burning north of the town.
District Officer Dave Pettit said that the strong winds are hindering their efforts.
“Due to the weather conditions during the day, the crews are only able to work during the night back burning along roads to contain the fire,” said D/O Dave Pettit.
“The NTFRS Volunteers are due to return to Darwin on Saturday. Further deployment from Darwin may be required if the current weather conditions continue.”
