A one-year-old girl has died after being run over by a car in Katherine this morning.

At about 9:15 am, the girl was reversed over by a 4WD that was owned by her family, at a property approximately 10km out of Katherine.

The girl was immediately transported to the Katherine Hospital by family with the assistance of police.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Katherine Hospital.

Senior Sergeant Andy Bedwell said that this was a tragic accident and the family are obviously devastated.

“The accident is not being treated as suspicious and the family are assisting Police with investigations.

“Our thoughts go out to the family during this sad time,” Senior Sergeant Bedwell said.

Police are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the incident and will include all their findings in a report for the Coroner.
