Youth charged for setting motorbike alight - Farrar

Police

General Crime Detectives have arrested and charged a 16-year-old male in relation to a fire that occurred in Farrar early Monday morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board said that the youth is alleged to have attended a residence on Savage Close at around 1:20 am on Monday and set a motorbike alight.

“We believe that following a dispute between the youth and a member of the house, the youth has attended the residence, located the bike in the driveway and set it on fire,” said A/Detective Senior Sergeant Board.

“Police and Fire and Rescue members attended and extinguished the blaze which also burnt part of the roof of the house and two nearby vehicles. This one thoughtless act caused approximately $40,000 worth of damage and could easily have turned to tragedy if it wasn’t for quick thinking and alert neighbours.”

The 16-year-old was located yesterday and has since been charged with arson and is to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on the 11 November 2011.
