NT Officers to Boost CHOGM Security

Police

Northern Territory Police Officers will form part of a National security operation, aimed at protecting dignitaries during this month’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth.

The Officers, drawn from the Territory Response Group, Intelligence Section and General Duties, will form a law enforcement contingent of about 700 Police Officers from all States and Territories and New Zealand.

About 3000 delegates are expected to attend the October 28th – 30th event, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh, Heads of Government, Ministers and Senior Officials.

Superintendent Tony Fuller says “It’s a great opportunity for Police from different jurisdictions to work together, which is highly valuable to individual operational units.”

“For the Territory Officers attending, they will get the exposure to a large scale Police operation that they would not normally see and the challenges this presents.”
