Light Plane Crash - Nyrippi

Police

A Cessna 210 aircraft has crash landed at the Nyrippi airstrip this afternoon, 500 kilometres WNW of Alice Springs.

Acting Sergeant Alexandra Konrad said the plane was delivering mail to the remote community and was attempting to land when strong winds caused the plane to drift.

“The aircraft has ballooned up and come down hard about 15 metres from the strip.  It has remained upright.

“The pilot was pulled from the plane by the co-pilot who has then walked towards town to fetch help.” Acting Sergeant Konrad said.

Both men were flown by RFDS to Alice Springs Hospital this afternoon.

The 26 year-old pilot was treated at the local clinic for possible spinal injuries and the 21 year-old co-pilot received a minor laceration to his forehead.

The ATSB will investigate.
