Two Men Charged for Separate Stabbing Incidents – Alice Springs

Police

Police have charged two men aged 30 and 32 for separate stabbing incidents in Alice Springs.

Constable First Class Ron Guascoine from the Southern Domestic Violence Protection Unit said it is alleged that on Wednesday 18 April the 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were drinking together at a location on Elliott Street.

“An altercation occurred between the two at around 1:00 the following morning. It is believed that after the woman went to bed, the man entered the room and allegedly stabbed the victim in the left eye with a broom handle,” Constable First Class Guascoine said.

Police arrested and charged him with cause serious harm and armed with an offensive weapon at night. The victim was flown to Adelaide for further treatment.

He is to appear in the Alice Springs Court today.

Constable First Class Guascoine said in a separate incident it is alleged that on 4 April an argument occurred between the 32-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman at a location in Alice Springs.

“It appeared the two had been drinking earlier in the evening, and as the argument escalated, the woman was allegedly stabbed in eye with a pair of scissors,” Constable First Class Guascoine said.

“On Thursday 19 April another argument occurred between the two at Amoonguna around 1:30 am, resulting in the woman allegedly receiving a stab wound to the head inflicted by a pair of pliers.

“Police were called to the scene and arrested the man. He was charged with armed with an offensive weapon at night, aggravated assault and engage in conduct that contravenes a DVO.

“Police have a zero tolerance approach to domestic violence. I urge anyone that may witness domestic related incidents, or who may suspect them to be occurring, to contact Police on 131 444.”

The man is to appear in the Alice Springs Court on 29 April.
