Alice Springs Police Launch Online Forum

Police

Today’s Connect & Protect community expo at the Convention Centre will see the official launch of a new community online forum.

Alice Springs Police Constable Simone Beale invites Alice Springs residents to join her in forming an online crime prevention partnership.

“This online forum called ‘Connect & Protect - Alice Springs’ provides residents with the ability to participate in an online crime prevention partnership, connecting with local Police directly to work together to ensure community safety.

“It utilises Facebook as the networking medium instead of all meeting face to face in a community hall like we might have done 10 years ago.

“This way, the community has greater access, from anywhere they have access to their Facebook account while still ensuring accurate and up to date information can be shared real time.

“I’ll be at the expo this afternoon to meet all those interested in joining this group, providing further information and getting people signed up.

“Our first forum will be an open topic, at 1pm on Friday.” Constable Beale said.

‘Connect & Protect – Alice Springs’ utilises Facebook and in accordance with Facebook policy, requires all group participants to have an individual facebook account.

It is a group forum, open to those who apply to take part, meeting the requirements and agreeing to the terms and conditions of the partnership.

In order to participate, you must

·        Be an Alice Springs resident

·        Have a personal facebook account

·        Have had your 15th birthday.

Non Alice Springs residents can apply to join the group if they can demonstrate why they should be a member and what they can contribute.

Special guests may be invited to attend particular forums and some forum topics may be specific such as ‘road safety’ or ‘youth engagement’ for example. Group members can choose whether to join particular forums or not.
