Alice Springs Detectives, executing a search warrant on a residential address in Alice Springs this morning, have located and seized 196 grams of cannabis and a small amount of an amphetamine type substance.

Police also seized five unregistered firearms during the raid.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst said a 22 year-old man has been taken into custody in relation to drug offences but ownership of the guns is still under investigation.

“Obviously Police are happy to have these weapons in our possession.  Unregistered firearms are of serious concern and we will be having a close look at who they belong to.

“We are also pleased to have these drugs out of circulation as well, Police estimate they would have fetched close to $5000 if sold in Alice Springs and much more if sold on aboriginal communities.”
