Illicit Drug Safety Warning - Darwin

Police

NT Police have issued a warning about a possible bad batch of illicit drugs.

Police have received credible intelligence that a bad batch of drugs described as white crystalline powder, being sold as "Crank", is in Darwin. The drugs when taken intravenously cause severe vomiting and immobilisation of the user.

Whilst no cases have been reported at Royal Darwin Hospital or by St John Ambulance at this time, Police are warning all intravenous illicit drug users of the possible threat so that we may avert any possible deaths.

Police have seized a quantity of the drug and testing of the substance is underway.  The final results of the testing will not be known until tomorrow morning. It is possible that the drug may be what is commonly referred to as "Bath Salts" but this is yet to be confirmed.

Bath Salts when taken intravenously are known to cause deaths and severe psychotic episodes.
