A 22-year-old man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today charged with the alleged assault of 37-year-old man.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the incident occurred at around 2am on Tuesday 5 March at BP Service Station on Smith Street.

“It is alleged the man entered the service station and stole a number of items before exiting the store.

“It is alleged the consol operator has confronted the man in relation to the theft and the offender has then punched him to the face a number of times before fleeing the area. “

Members from Strike Force Trident arrested the man on Saturday and have charged him with assault with intent to steal, assault and stealing.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said, “There is no excuse and Police will not tolerate this thuggish behaviour. If you commit these types of crimes we will lock you up.”
