The Daly River water level is currently 13.99 at the community of Nauiyu and is expected to peak this evening at 14.1 metres.

Water has reached four more houses over the weekend and residents have been temporarily moved to Wooliana School with the assistance of NTES and the Water Police.

Commander David Proctor, from NT Police said that if levels do not exceed 14.1 further houses and infrastructure are not expected to be affected.

“A total of five houses in total have been affected by flood waters with water now reaching some of the community roads.  The airstrip has water covering part of the runway and the Daly River Road is currently closed at Five Mile Creek.

“The community gates are closed and the only access is by boat.”

Commander Proctor said Local residents should ensure they stay informed by attending community meetings and talking with Local Counter Disaster Committee representatives, Water Police or NTES volunteers who are in the area.

“Road users in the region should carefully consider their options before trying to cross any flooded roadways. Trying to predict the water depth or not being able to see if the road is still intact could have fatal consequences.

Commander Proctor said residents should also remain vigilant regarding crocodiles after a 3 metre croc was captured in a trap overnight.
