Man Arrested for Supplying Alcohol - Katherine

Police

Members from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (NSAID) detected a 75-year-old man selling alcohol without a licence yesterday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said members intercepted two men in possession of a wine cask they purchased from a unit in Katherine yesterday.

“Police conducted a search of the unit and seized a bottle of wine and several wine casks.

“The man is to be summonsed to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court at a later date and is to be charged with selling liquor without a licence.

“Sly grog sales remain a significant issue for us in Katherine when trying to tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce the violence that it causes. These sales attempt to defeat and undermine liquor restrictions and cause significant harm within the community.

“We are determined to keep enforcing offences under the Liquor Act and urge anyone with information on unlawful liquor sales to contact us on 131 444 or 1800 333 000.”
