Sweet deal turns sour for alleged smuggler

Police

Police from the Remote Community Drug Desk have seized 61 grams of cannabis secreted in a mixed lolly bag at the airport this morning.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller said Police were acting on information received when they attended a local airline company and searched freight destined for a Top End indigenous community.

“It is not unusual for Police to find cannabis hidden in children’s toys, nappies, food, detergent bottles and a wide range of other products.

“This lolly bag had been resealed so they have gone to some effort to conceal the true contents, thankfully to no avail.

“Police believe the cannabis could have been sold for $6,000 if it had reached its destination.”

Detective Superintendent Fuller said investigations into the cannabis find were continuing.
