Operation Vida brings drug operation to an end

Police

Northern Territory Police have made several arrests in relation to the distribution and supply of cannabis to remote communities.

Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Squad began ‘Vida’ in early March targeting a family operation that Police will allege was heavily involved in the supply of cannabis to remote communities.

As a result Police have now arrested seven people and seized 517 grams of cannabis, a boat, two vehicles, fireworks, ammunition and approximately $15,500 in cash.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen Pfitzner said a 65 year-old man has been charged with multiple offences.

“Police will allege the man was the principal offender in this case and he is now facing charges including 13 counts of unlawfully supply cannabis, 2 counts of possess trafficable amount of cannabis and possess proceeds of crime.

“Police will also allege it was a family affair with a 57 year-old woman and two men aged 37 and 33 also facing similar charges.”

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Pfitzner said more arrests were likely and that the operation to shut down this alleged family based syndicate had disrupted the supply of cannabis to remote communities.

“This is a very good result for the people who live on these communities who do not want the associated crime and anti-social behaviour that comes with the sale of illegal drugs."
