Serious Crime Detectives are investigating a suspicious house fire which occurred in Wanguri early this morning.

Detective Senior Constable First Class Kieron Weller said, Emergency Services were alerted to a house fire on Strele Crescent at around 4:00am.

“Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance members attended the scene. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, however the inside of the house was completely destroyed,” Detective Senior Constable First Class Weller said.

“Although investigations are still underway, it appears offender/s have forced their way into the home and started the fire in a bedroom.

“Because of this thoughtless and reckless act, an innocent family has lost everything. The only saving grace was that no one was home at the time.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around 4:00 this morning, or who may have any further information which could assist with the investigation, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
