Sexual assault charges - Darwin

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division have charged a 41 year-old man with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault causing serious harm and aggravated assault.

Police were called to Knuckey Camp just before 2am on Friday morning where they found a 31 year-old female who had allegedly been sexually assaulted.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Janelle Tonkin said the woman had lost a substantial amount of blood during the assault.

“St Johns Ambulance staff stabilised the victim before transporting her to Royal Darwin Hospital.

“Police from the Dog Operations Unit assisted General Duties Police to track down the alleged offender who was found about an hour later hiding in the bush around the camp and arrested.”

The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday, July 29.
